Eddie Hearn explains why he's not involved in Katie Taylor v Amanda Serrano 2 from promotional point of view

Eddie Hearn has suggested that the money Katie Taylor was offered to fight on the same card as Mike Tyson's controversial bout with Jake Paul was too good to turn down for the Bray Bomber.

The Matchroom Boxing boss has promoted all 24 of Taylor's professional fights to date, but says he will not be involved from a "promotional point of view" when the undisputed super-lightweight champion defends the belts she won by beating Chantelle Cameron last November against Amanda Serrano in July.

Puerto Rican Serrano, who Taylor defeated via split-decision in an all-time classic at Madison Square Garden in 2022, is promoted by YouTuber turned boxer Paul's Most Valuable Promotions, who will promote the July 20 event at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

"We negotiated the whole fight because it was the right opportunity for Katie Taylor," explained Hearn to Boxing Social. "It was the right offer and I want to thank DAZN for allowing us to have that sensical conversation to say 'look lets let her get the win here and then we'll be back for a big fight'.

"But at this point in her career when we receive an offer like that, the right offer, we have to consider it. Shaun Palmer did a great job in negotiating with Nakisa (Bidarian) and MVP and Brian Peters done a great job.

"It's just honesty to say this is a good offer, we believe we can win the fight, lets take it. I'm not involved from a promotional point of view, be backing her 100% and we expect to come through."

Hearn previously said he thought it was "disgusting" that Tyson, who will be 58 when the fight takes place, is getting back in the ring to face someone 30 years younger than him, but he says Taylor's fight has nothing to do with that controversial bout.

He said: "It's got nothing to do with the main event. It's just the right opportunity for my fighter, someone that we care about a lot, someone that deserves everything from the sport of boxing.

"Financially this was a big opportunity, we like the fight, she wants to be on the biggest fights out there. Simple as that."

He added: "Once she beats Amanda Serrano, Katie Taylor is going to be back, Chantelle Cameron, Alycia Baumgardner, who knows? I'm very confident she wins."
