RTE Late Late Show 'off air' on Friday as host Patrick Kielty takes 'a break' for Easter

Saoirse Ronan’s hit movie Brooklyn is set to replace Friday night’s Late Late Show as host Patrick Kielty takes “a break” for Easter.

The host announced at the end of last Friday’s chat show that the Late Late Show would be “taking a break” this weekend.

Instead, TV scheduling bosses will be showing the award-winning film Brooklyn, starring Saoirse Ronan.

Asked why the Late Late Show wasn’t airing, a spokesman for RTE said: “The Late Late Show will return on Friday 5th April with a GAA special to mark the start of the GAA Championship.”

When asked again why Kielty was taking a break for the Easter weekend, RTE declined to answer.

However, his wife Cat Deeley has shed some light on her husband’s whereabouts.

The This Morning host and her co-star Ben Shephard announced they were taking a "break" from the ITV show, just weeks after signing up to their new roles.

On Thursday's episode, Cat said they were going to take a "holiday" soon.

Before Cat mentioned their holiday, people were already chatting about it online. Posting on X, formerly Twitter, one person wrote: "Ben and Cat will be on for like two weeks then will go off for Easter for about three weeks....ridiculous".

Another person said: "They should've started after Easter and the studio itself given a makeover".

We can also reveal Kielty will finish his first season of hosting the longest-running chat show on Friday, May 10.

Kielty is being paid €250,000 for 30 episodes this season after he replaced Ryan Tubridy last September.

He also got a one-off payment of €20,000 to cover the pre-production and rehearsals last summer before the show aired.

Kielty's most recent show saw Derry Girls and Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan joined by Mel B on the sofa.

It was clear that Nicola and Mel were fans of each other and as Mel B probed the Galway native with questions about her next project with Kielty jokingly walking away from his desk as if to suggest he wasn't needed for the chat.

The Late Late Show Twitter account even joked that Mel B was "guest host" for the night.
