The government has submitted the new child protection bill to the National Assembly, announced Máté Kocsis, Fidesz parliamentary group leader, on his social media page.

In accordance with the draft law, the penalties for pedophiles will be further tightened:

there will be no statute of limitations for sexual offenses of a pedophilic nature, no parole, no reintegration detention, and perpetrators will never be able to get a certificate of good conduct,

Magyar Nemzet reports. Hungarian citizens who commit such offenses abroad will also be included in the public pedophile database. In addition, professionals working with children who fail to report when a child is at risk could face up to two years in prison.

“We are subjecting staff working in child protection services to rigorous aptitude tests to ensure that the children in their care are safe. It is important to stress here that there are many decent, honest people working in child protection, and we need to filter out those who have access to them in order to act out their sick inclinations,” Máté Kocsis wrote in his post.

One element of the package will make it easier to report and get content that violates children’s privacy rights removed. Another amendment, closely linked to the package, will protect children from age-inappropriate content. This will give parents a tool to request a kind of filtered internet for their children, where sites blacklisted by the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) will not be available.
